I wrote a colorful picture book about self-acceptance and the infectious joy of self-expression!

The process of writing A Rainbow In Your Cloud was like giving my inner child a hug.

Growing up as a shy autistic kid, I had a hard time making friends… So I gave my character in the book the friends that I always wished for.

Elle Pierre brought my characters and story to life in such a magical way! I love the illustrations in this book so so much!

It was important that little Amina in the book used they/them pronouns like I do now. I wasn’t safe to express or even explore my gender identity growing up, and I hope things can be different for other trans and nonbinary kids.

It’s true, I love whales, and I get extremely excited and flap nearly every time I see one, just like my character in the book!

My goal in creating this book with Scholastic was to show as many kids as possible just how good it can feel to show up in the world as your full self! I want everyone to have that experience because it’s magical and life-saving.

I wrote A Rainbow In Your Cloud for anyone who was ever made to feel like they were either too much or not enough! I want you to know you are just right!
